As if living it wasn't reminder enough, this article from The Edge gives a pretty good recap of the losses and gains for our community during 2009. Live. Love. Fight.

Aughts Were A Lost Decade For U.S. Economy, Workers
Aughts were a lost decade for U.S. economy, workers.
If you feel like you simply can't get ahead, it's not just your imagination. In the last decade there was zero job growth in our economy in the US. Zero. At the same time the net worth of American households seriously declined. The value of houses dropped, retirement funds plunged, and other assets, minus our expansive debts, also declined when adjusted for inflation. Still think capitalist consumerism is the best idea?
Escape The Big Bad Wolf-10 Sensational Homes Built from Straw
Some terrific info on straw built homes, one of my favorite eco friendly building methods. There is also info in the article about other eco conscious building materials and eco decorating. My two favorites on this list are the home built in Wales (the hobbit house) and the one placed first on the list in Oakland, CA.

Huffington Post-Grandparents: Experts On Green Living (PHOTOS)
Some great, old green tips for the new year. Although agree with the article, and the principles within, I would be careful when giving too much credit to our grandparents for being eco friendly. They were youngsters as national industrialization, broad marketing, and mass production/consumption ramped up and have done little on the whole to stamp out environmentally unfriendly practices over the last six decades. In fact, you could argue they let it all happen. Their eco friendly efforts in the WWII era go unmatched, but their stewardship of the Earth after that is nothing to be proud of.

'One Life To Live' Gay Sex Scene Is First Ever On Daytime TV (VIDEO)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/31/first-ever-daytime-gay-se_n_408349.html
It took guts to air this and it is nice to see ABC make a milestone. I won't admonish the exposure, but ABC doesn't deserve a pat on the back for doing this. They have issued a very short, narrow, proscribed leash, to gay characters on their network. The leash is one they are comfortable with, one that is safe and sanitized for the masses. That will never do in the long run. Trading one closet for a new one, doesn't advance our cause at all.

The Edge-NH Gay Couples To Start New Year With Wedding Vows
A great way to ring in the new year. I'm absolutely giddy. I never imagined that this would be happening in my lifetime, especially in my adopted home state. I'm really excited to live in a state that will recognize our commitment to each other. That recognition, with its' privileges, also carries some disappointment and sadness.
I won't truly be happy until all of us can marry and have full protection under the law. I won't feel safe until our nation and world grows up and adopts a stance of tolerance. Though I'm thrilled by my opportunities, the amount of work we still have to do is daunting to say the least. Thee is also a growing force of opposition we will have to face.
But, I think that if NH can do this, so can the rest of the states in the union, and eventually most nations in the world.
Conceive. Believe. Receive. If that doesn't work, we'll have to fight like hell.
